The ship's doctor, Hiroyuki, is on his way to his new office in Ennakajima, a small island off the coast of northeastern Japan. He's worried about his wife, who's sick, but he's also worried about the other passengers on the ship. One of the passengers, a man in his mid-thirties, seems to be in a bad mood, and Hiroyuki worries that he might be a shark-baiting trap. The doctor, however, is not so sure. He and his wife have just arrived at the port of Naruga, where Hiroyuki has set up a water treatment center. Hiroyuki tells the doctor that he has been worried about losing his will to live, but the doctor reassures him that he'll be able to recover some of his will soon.
