In this chapter, we are introduced to a number of characters, each of whom is a "three peerless brother in law" . The first of these characters is the wife of a "law husband" who returns home at any time. The second character is the sister of a law husband who comes home "at any rate." The third character is a woman who is "made to clench many an 'three peerless brothers in law' ." The fourth character is "a woman who has been made to squeeze many a 'supreme brother-in-law' . " The fifth and final character is that of a woman "who is made to embrace her husband one last time."
