The narrator returns home to find that her husband, a doctor, has gone to the bar to buy some food. He has left his wallet in her husband's pocket, and she feels lonely. She asks her husband if he would like to celebrate his birthday with her, and he says that he would. She tells him that it is his birthday today, and that she would like him to come home early so that she can celebrate with him. The narrator tells her that she has to hurry home because she has business to attend to, and then she tells her husband that she is going to buy him a birthday cake
