About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a "sniffle boohoo" and a "woohoo" . It's clear that this is the first time the narrator has ever heard anything like this. He's worried about his ear, and he doesn't want other children to have to deal with it. He tells the other children not to worry, because he's a friend of the girl who's crying. He also tells them not to go out of their way to help the girl if she's not taking care of herself, because there's always someone to "bring the mood down" , and that's what the club is supposed to do. The narrator is upset that the girl is crying, and she tells the others not to be so quick to blame her. She's just a friend, she says, and they shouldn't judge her on her "grown-up standards." The girl is named Eunbi, and the narrator says she sprayed her face with water on her first day at the club because she thought the narrator looked "scared." The narrator apologizes for being so scared, and says he'll give her strength so she won't be scared anymore.
