In this short scene, we learn that the woman who was escorted out of the Underground Man's mansion is none other than the Governess herself. The Governess tells us that she's afraid that her company's fans will find out about her and her lover and kill her or her body. She's also worried that her career will be ruined if they discover that she was the one who escorted her out.
