Miss Jessel and the Governess are still trapped in the dungeon. The Governess is determined to rescue her, but she has to first find a way out. She finds a key to the door, which she unlocks with the help of a rope tied around her neck. She realizes that the key was given to her by the crew, and that she has been locked up in a room with no access to the outside world. She recognizes the dagger as belonging to her, and realizes that she may have accidentally cut herself with it while cutting a rope with it. She is afraid that she will have to kill herself with the dagger again.
