The scene opens with Weilan's brother, Cai Ming-liang, telling his brother that he is falling in love with his former wife, Ming-ying. He tells Cai that he has found a way to get the baby out of the orphanage and that he will take care of the baby while he goes to the hospital to get it back. Cai tells his brother to stop crying and to keep his eyes closed.
