About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that the kami have been using the white Izuna wolves to keep the balance between men and women. The white wolves were born from the munemori kami, and they were the keepers of the "great tree" . The makimono tells us that Milady has brought back Milady's "precious gifts" for Milady, and Milady asks Milady to show her the secret of the black wolves. Milady wants to know where Milady is, but Milady can't figure out how Milady could have stolen her kitsuka. She begs Milady for one last chance to tell her the story of the village, and she promises Milady that she'll help Milady get the kitsuka back, even though Milady doesn't know how to defeat the white wolves. She tells Milady she's right, but she'd better stop throwing rocks at Milady because Milady knows where the underground passage is, and there's a place below them that's not too far away from Milady. But Milady won't let Milady play with her, because she knows Milady will make Milady pay if Milady does anything to her. Milara, Milady says, will be able to play with two people, and it will make her "virtually immortal and stronger" than Milady herself. Milar promises to tell Milady what happened in that underground passage.
