About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a description of the "kamigakushi," a magical veil created by nature to hide the kami from the eyes of man. The kami are the ones who protect the sacred tree munemori from the evil noggo, and they are the only ones who are able to fight it. The chapter ends with a soliloquy by aki, aki's younger sister. Aki tells her sister that her little brother will soon be born, and she begs her sister to leave him alone. She tells her that she is the one who created the wall that separated the mune from the rest of the world, and that the wall still ties her to the world. She also tells rumiko that she has been sleeping with kenshin every day, but at night he is always watching over her. He is a brave warrior, and every day he goes off to protect the village, but he always returns to watch over rumiko at sundown. He says that he wants to leave, and rumiko tells him that they are safe, but that they must be strong as they will not be able to hear the "fearful shadow warriors" that have been attacking the village for days. They are safe for now, rumiko says, but they fear that it will not last much longer. They have found the castle of the kuroga, which is in the mountains, where they can find kenta. The onba, the senshi, and the nio are all safe at the witch's house, but the onba should go, since he is responsible for the past. The only person who can tell them where they are is "Kitsune hime," the witch.
