About This Chapter
The sun is already setting, and the old monk asks Kenshin to rethink his decision. The old monk reminds him that he has always been there for him, and asks him not to do anything stupid. Kenshin tells him that many of his yamibiushi are not at the castle with them, and that there is a real danger that they will be killed if they attack the castle again. He says that he will create something "beyond all expectation," and that it is no use to him alone. He tells his father that the human is too small to be a threat to the castle, and he fears that if he falls, they will have to deal with too many of the demons. He asks his father to remember that he too is a monster and that he would have done the same thing regardless, but he was afraid of giving his life for the child. He orders his father not to set the creature loose, and says that the machine he had built for him was not for creating the creature, but for creating a proper body for him to return to. He promises to create a new body for Kenshin, and to keep him in his heart forever.
