Book 3 opens with a description of the magic stone, which is said to be the result of a duel between two wolves. It is said that a man named Tozen, who lives on top of Mount Tosa, had a son named Daisuke. When his wife died, Tozen went to the village and gambled, but time passed and he missed his son. The boy begged his father to let him fight the duel in his stead, and Tozen agreed. The next day, the boy disguised himself as Tozen and fought the duel, killing all the wolves Tozen had encountered. The man who fought the wolf, Levant, was killed by Tozen's shadow, and the man who defeated Levant continued to fight the wolves out of spite
