In this chapter, we learn that the Golden Cane has sent a message to the nine fairy-tale kings of Mars, telling them that their treasure is the secret of mars. The treasure is described in great detail, and we are told that it is the entire message. We are also told that the code is a type of caesar cipher, which is used to solve many legal problems. The Golden Cane's message, however, is only a string of numbers, and the only way to decipher it is to use a special type of cipher known as a "qwerty-qwerty layout" . We learn that this layout is different from the layout of the keyboards in Elysium, and that the doctor cannot match it with erica's handwriting. We also learn that Damjan has figured out that the one that answers the first part of the code must be the one who answers the second part. Damjan tells erica that she is smarter than she thought, and he tells her that when she grows up, she will have to marry him. He tells her to listen to her opinions, because she must not allow anyone else to suspect that she has weakened the code. He says that he has solved the entire code, which means that the treasure is calling for him. The only problem is that there has been no discovery of the treasure for a week.
