In this short scene, the Governess apologizes to Guppy for cutting her nails in the past, and Guppy is all, "I'm sorry. I was careless. You used to cut your nails for me before. I'm fine, dismayed. He wants to know why she can't accept him. The Governess tells Guppy that if he doesn't come to the housekeeper's house in Paris to report the crime, Guppy will call his mother and ask her for a police report, and then he'll kill her. Guppy says he's not going to kill her, and that he has already exhausted all of the love he had for her. He asks why Guppy hasn't killed him, but Guppy points out that murder is illegal right now. He says he won't do anything for Guppy ever again, because he no longer treats her the way he used to, and she's never going to see him again. He's just saying that he can no longer bear to leave her, because she used to be such a nice and obedient person to him, and now that all of those things are gone, what's he going to do now? Guppy promises to be nice to him when they see each other next week, and he says he just wants to have her.
