In the middle of the night, the Governess is woken up by the sound of someone's voice. She realizes that it is the voice of her lover, who is drunk. The Governess realizes that she has fallen in love with someone else, and she is horrified by what has happened to her and her lover. She curses the man who has betrayed her and vows to kill him.
