About This Chapter
Dr. Rivers tries to get the young man to admit that he is in love with another woman, but the boy refuses, saying that he cannot live without his mother. He tells his mother that he will not leave her and that she cannot say goodbye to him in the future if she does not love him. Rivers tells the boy that he has had three separate psychological counseling sessions, and that this is the third time he has tried to get him to open up to another woman. The boy says that when he was a child, his parents were very devoted. One day, Mr. Rivers brought home a child and the child was a "love child" . Since then, his mother has changed very little. She has lost her temper at first, but then she has gotten so angry that she has begun to beat the boy. Rivers asks the boy if he really does not understand love, and the boy says he does not.
