In this chapter, we are introduced to Lisbeth, who has just fallen asleep in the arms of her brother-in-law, who is dressed in his brother's clothes. Lisbeth asks if the clothes belong to her brother, who tells her that he is serious about taking her away from her foster family. He says that he has graduated from college and that he can take care of her. He promises to take her wherever she wants to go. He makes her some delicious food and promises to give her a warm home when she grows up.
