In this chapter, we learn that the police cadet has made it all the way to the top of the police academy, where he is now studying at a college. The narrator is amazed that the cadet has been able to make it to this point in his life. He tells the story of how, when he was in high school, the cadet helped him get back on his feet and get back to the straight and narrow path. Now, he tells us, he is telling the cadet to walk his own path. He also tells us that he has written many letters to the cadet over the past two years, but he hasn't yet received a reply from him. He says that he will try to get the two of them to get married before he graduates from college, so that they can have a child together.
