This chapter opens with a flashback to the beginning of the previous chapter, in which we learn that the schoolmate, Cai Ling, has been wounded in the face by a long-haired student named Fang, who has been living in the woods since he was a student at the school. Cai Ling explains that the wound on the student's right side was caused by Fang, and that he has to punch the student twice to make sure that the other side of the face is also wounded. The schoolmate tries to convince Cai Ling to let go of the student, but Cai Ling refuses to listen to him. He tells Cai Ling that he should go to the cinema, where he can meet the other student, who is also named Fang. The two men agree to meet at the cinema.
