In this chapter, we learn that the flowering stage of the experiment has come to an end, and that the school will hold a seeding event on the following day. The school's educational affairs office is organizing the event, and the students will be given the opportunity to observe the experiment. As the chapter opens, we are introduced to a student named huang liang, who has just graduated from the university. He is a member of the student body, and he has just completed his sophomore year at the university, during which time the school has been experimenting on a number of plants. He tells us that he has left the university with a "modest, dynamic, and optimistic" impression, and hopes to see his former friend again. He also tells us about the school and the experiment, and how it has left him with a sense of optimism and a hope for the future. He feels that the students are acting strangely, and wonders why they are behaving this way. He explains that if a person achieves a dream and then dies, he or she will not be able to achieve the dream, but will still leave a seed. If the person who has died leaves the seed, then that person's death will be considered a "seeding event," and the seeds will then be reincarnated into the body of that person who died.
