About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he's not surprised that the restaurant is getting so much attention, since it's so good. He's also surprised that they've managed to get the mayor's support, since they're not going to be able to compete with the best restaurants in the city. The narrator says that he doesn't think there's anything wrong with the restaurant's cooking, since everyone is ordering "viva la vida" . He tells his fiancee that he drove all the way to the restaurant to try the dish, but he can't eat it because there are only 100 serving of the dish left. He asks his fiancee if she'd like to try other dishes, but she refuses, saying that she's too busy to do so. He also tells her that he has found a way to "detox" her dark cuisine, which is why his dishes are so much better than hers. He says that if she wants to have a contest with him, he can do it, since he'll still be the best restaurant in town. He then shows his fiancee a bottle of wine that's made by Carlos, the man who inspired him to open the restaurant in the first place. Carlos's wine is one of his favorite things, and the narrator tells him that he can use it in his cooking as well. He wants to know if the narrator has heard of his son, who's been invited to compete in a cooking competition on a local cooking show. He thinks that the narrator misunderstood him, since his son isn't his own son,
