The Governess is annoyed that Sooty is trying to get her to fall in love with him. She tells the Governess that she has no time for romantic thoughts since Sooty's restaurant is now reopened. She advises her to think about her upcoming entrance exam instead of worrying about romantic thoughts. Sooty tells her that he has been practicing her mother's method and that she is likely to pass her entrance exam. He says that he will be more strict on her when she is admitted to the university. He tells her to rest assured that she will not let him down. She says that she missed the entrance exam because of a concert tour. She asks Sooty to tell her what Sooty likes. She explains that he likes gardening, animals, and cooking. He is "mean and impulsive" and used to "run away from home". She tells him that she does not like him because beauty is in his eyes and he does not deserve her adoration. She adds that she fears that all her efforts will go to nothing. She wonders if it is cool for people to pursue their love when they go to school and when they board at university.
