This chapter opens with the disembodied voice of the reaper, who tells the audience that he is going to eat a badger. He tells them that the badger and the coyote are enemies, but that the next time they take the badger's burrow, the squirrels will see the badger first. The reaper tells his audience that they are not done with the story, and that they must not walk away before the story is over. He explains that Alice tried to find him, but she found what he left behind. Alice was working for a studio when she was found by the man who found her. She tried to get away from him, too, but Alice got away too. She was entirely in the thrall of the conjurer, and she had not even known that he was there. He asks the audience what they will give them to know, and they tell him that they need to keep the conjure man before she can free him from his obsession. They explain that they were supposed to be a couple, but they were never able to forgive one another. Instead, Alice dipped a stick into honey and allowed the demons to come to her, and like that, she was free
