The chapter begins with a description of the red flower, which symbolizes glory. The left guardian is awarded a red flower every time he is recognized by the guards. He becomes closer to them, and the other prisoners begin to treat him as if he were trash. They begin to intentionally exclude him. The chapter ends with a soliloquy by the prison officer. He tells the left guardian that he hopes he can become their mole and expose the plan for escape.
