About This Chapter
This chapter opens with a flashback to the beginning of the previous chapter, where Dr. Bledsoe explains that he is in the middle of a confrontation with the emei, who is trying to kill him. He is about to kill himself when he is interrupted by his sister, who asks him if he is feeling better. Dr. Lockwood tells him that his sister needs his help because she is weak. He tells her to rest a bit, and then he tells her that his marks are not the result of a sword fight, but are actually caused by a cold poison. He explains that the poison is rare and that he can treat it with the universal good fortune that he used to practice. He then explains that it can transform the poisonous energy into an aura form. He says that the sacrifice would be big, but it would be safer if he were to keep his sister by his side. He asks her if she knows how to treat the poison. She says that she does, and he says he can help her. He gives her some needles to use to suppress the effect of the poison in her body. She asks him to take off her clothes before he does the injection, as she is afraid of needles. He apologizes, and says he is ready for the real thing.
