In this short scene, Shylock and his friend, Monty, try to figure out what's wrong with each other. Shylock tells Monty that he's dying, and Monty says that's not true. They're both shocked, but Monty reassures them that there's no reason for them to be apart. Monty tells Shylock that he was looking for them on the train, and that they should turn themselves in to the police. He says that the police are on the lookout for them, but that they must have been framed by one of Lizz's crazy friends. He's also worried that they'll be arrested for writing songs like that, which is a lousy way to earn a living. He wonders how he did it, and wonders why he blamed his family for all of his problems. The next night, they're going to a bachelorette party, and the place is full of rats and cats, but they've got a present for Monty: a pair of garters.
