About This Chapter
When Wijayakusuma tells his daughter that her father wants her to eat the leaf as a symbol of the dark arts to break the curse of Nyau Ikih, the girl is confused. She asks her mother and father to perform a ritual to free them from the curse. When she takes off her blindfold, she realizes that her parents have been wearing their clothes. Wijaykusuma explains that the ritual was necessary because he had to return her from the dog form to the human form. He asks for money to pay for the ritual, but his sister refuses to ask for it. Wijayanusuma explains how he was the one to ask Watu to bring humans as sacrifices to eat by banyu. He was also the one who brought Lusi and dipta into the river. When ronggo asks how to repay Banyu for saving his husband from drowning, Banyu only asks to be taken from the river because there were no more fishes to eat. After that, banyu has been kept inside a drum at home and fed fishes. Banyu grows even bigger and cannot fit inside of the drum. He threatens to eat his daughter and wife, if he is not given human meat in a week
