About This Chapter
The narrator asks the doctor if it's okay to go to a human hospital for a check-up. The doctor tells him that there's nothing wrong with him, but that he needs to come back in case something happens. The narrator is surprised to find out that the doctor came just to check on him. He asks if he's worried about him, and the doctor says that he is. He tells the narrator to buy the doctor something to eat on the way back home, since the cicadas are beginning to die off. He wonders what the doctor is thinking when he sees the narrator, and wonders what he wants for dinner. He can't even look at the doctor's face, because he can feel his nerves getting on his nerves. He wants to get revenge on the doctor for leaving him behind, and he wants the doctor to stay next to him, so that he can hear his thoughts. He's not sure if this is a reaction from his feelings for the doctor, or if the doctor just carried it like a mess all day. He also wonders if this isn't the first outbreak of earth disease, and if he has caught it.
