The protagonist wakes up in the middle of the night and tells himself that he's done with his work for the day. He's going to go to the grocery store and buy some paper to send back to his mothership. When he gets back to the apartment, he sees that the coma patient has woken up. He goes to the hospital and finds out that the patient was found.
