About This Chapter
"Cain," the monster says, "I'm okay. I'm still processing everything, but i'm not feeling nothing right now. You can't get your responsibilities between your well. Being, don'T be like my father. He died in a ship about to burst. He kept going, he says, because his only work was to keep the ship afloat. Cain says she's sorry that she didn't stay with him when he woke up in the hospital, but she doesn't blame him. He made the right decision, she says, and that's why he's changed. He's going to tell his father what happened, and he needs to tell him that his mother showed up with white hair and white hair the night he came home. She's probably been involved with the creatures, Cain thinks, because she used to do it all the time when they were kids. He says he can see it happening to him, too, because he used to like how warm his father was when he was a kid. He wants to know how he feels about running into a wall, and how he felt when he ran into it.
