The chapter opens with a description of the diver's logbook, which is a record of his activities as a diver. The narrator informs us that this is the first time the narrator has seen the log, and he is surprised that the others did not show up on the blind date. He is also surprised that they did not come out on the same day, since he thought they were going to get married. He thinks it is his fault that they all came out on such a blind date, since they all drank too much. He also tells us that he is disappointed that he did not get a chance to say hello to him before he left. He says he is having a stingy day because he does not want to share a piece of his chocolate with his friend. He has received an e-mail from his friend saying that he has been accepted into a diving academy in the philippines. He asks if he is okay going alone, but he says he would have accompanied him if he were not busy. He adds that once he arrives at the airport someone will be coming to pick him up, and that person will also introduce him to a diving shop he knows. He tells the narrator that they will also make their grandsons and granddaughters divers so that they can be family of divers. He sends the log to his friend because he feels sorry and sad that they were not able to spend a good day together.
