About This Chapter
Love is everywhere, the narrator tells us, and he's not alone in thinking about it. He's got a crush on the president of the culinary school, but he doesn't know how to express it in a way that makes sense to the audience. He also thinks that the introduction to the school's new year is too long, and that's why he'll have to give up on it. Oh, and another thing: the girls are criticizing his work, which is fine, he says, but it's hard to ask him for advice when you're trying to stay in line with other people's work. Oh yeah, and she's reading a book called "Tigris and Euphrats" by motoko, who's apparently trying to keep out her club members. The narrator is all, "Oh, nana, um . . did you say you'd have stuff to do the day before?" , and nana's like, "No, you didn't say you had anything to do yesterday?" . And then the narrator starts talking about the baker who let her have the last sale of bread . The baker is a "boring old face like that," and he thinks that he can "set his sights" high on her. She's totally in love with him, and even she thinks he'd be into a girl like her. He wouldn't do that to her, she says, even if he had a girlfriend. She thinks that women are the "kind of creature" to "take advantage" of people, and the baker's face is just the tip of the iceberg. He and the girl aren't actually together, but they're still in love, and they've been together for a long time. It's just like a "weight suddenly lifted
