The next day, the narrator is horrified by the sight of his daughter getting smacked in the face. He tells his friend that he cannot bear to watch her suffer anymore. The narrator tells him that he is a student now and that he will show his friends that he can write his own books. He says that after the fight, he dedicated himself to his writing and that his circle of friends grew larger and larger.
