About This Chapter
In this short scene, the audience is introduced to the young protagonist, Sophie, and her father, Monsieur Beaulieu. The young protagonist complains to his father that he is bored with his fairy tales and wishes he could go back to the real world. The father tells him that he knows exactly what is going to happen, and that he will relieve the young boy of his worries. He tells Sophie that he has told her that the "humpy thing" is about to arrive and that they have to leave immediately. He says that he wants to do this because he is getting tired of her fairy tales, and he tells her that he never listened to her and that she was too busy "hating everything" to even consider anything. He explains that if you are obligated to do something, then you learn to hate it. Sophie replies that she hates the place because she just said something profound. She tells her father that she resents everything, and she will eventually hate the place. She says that she is here to save her and bring her back. She asks him why he is doing this and he replies that he did not defeat the "evil cloudia" and that the only way he can return is if he agrees to fight "dark cloudia."
