In this chapter, we learn that a girl named Gertrude wishes that she could go away to a fairyland filled with wonder, magic, laughter, and joy. Unfortunately, the girl's wish is not fulfilled. She is taken in by a miserable man named Jean. The narrator tells us that he is the narrator in the Guild of Storytellers and that he will be giving a tour of fairyland to the people who left their fairyland conversion chart at home. He will show them the proper respect and he will explain the rules of the game.
