About This Chapter
In this short scene, the two young men discuss the forthcoming battle between the French and the English. The French soldier tells the young man that he has been on the front lines for eight years, and he has never seen an enemy approaching. He tells the boy that they are on the verge of war, and the boy is very happy to see them. The young man tells the French soldier that he is not here to say anything, but to try to get back to his own world. The soldier tells him that he did not come to say that he was going on a quest to woo the world, but that he wanted to get the heck out of the way so that he could return to his normal life. He asks the boy if he likes demon dank. The boy says that he does, and that he would like to be home by the following evening. He says that if he keeps this pace, he could be back by tomorrow evening. The two men talk about the witches, the black masses, the sorcerers, and all the other things that are evil in fairyland. They say that Gertrude has convinced all thirty-four of their wives to leave them and take all of their treasure when they were gone. They want to kill her before she makes her way out of fairyland, and they are out of their depth here. They both say that they will be the ones to do it. They tell the young men that they have found a key to the castle, and Gertty has finally returned to her world. They are sad that she has returned, but they are happy that she will be able to go back to her old life.
