In this short scene, we get a brief glimpse of the relationship between the two young ladies. First, we're introduced to the "gentleman or beast" of the story. The two girls are discussing the scar on the girl's face, which was cut when she was a child. We learn that the scar was "bad enough" for the girl to hide, but not so bad that she couldn't see it. The girl blushes, and the scar is visible in front of her. She thinks it's because the man she's in love with took her virginity, and she doesn't want to hide it. She kisses the girl, and then she kisses the boy she loves. The boy is the son of the duke of ichijo, and we learn that he's here to visit.
