About This Chapter
It's been a while since we've heard from the narrator, but he's back. He's in the middle of a conversation with a client, and the conversation is interrupted by the arrival of another client. This time, the client is a "leader study" , which means that she's the one who's supposed to be in charge of the study. The narrator doesn't want to be the one in charge, because he'd rather be doing the work himself. He wants to get the job done, and he'll do anything to get it done, even if it hurts his pride to do so. He asks the other girls why they always ask him questions about his personal life, and they all agree that he is the type of guy who would never ask them such questions. He says that he just wants to do his job well, and that's why they ask him so many questions. The other girls, he says, are always asking him questions because they're afraid that he won't be able to do the job well enough. He also says that if he does get hurt, he can use the other girl's ulterior motives to his advantage, and if he ends up getting hurt, who is she? The narrator says that she can act more "the pat spoiled
