In this chapter, we learn that the narrator is afraid of his sister. He tells her that she will always be his sister, and that he will always love her. He asks her to tell him what is bothering her, and she tells him that she is worried about her twin sister, who is named "zhou qing." She says that the patriarch will not ask about the past, because she is experienced with raising children. The younger sister says she can, but that she has heard that the mother wants to put her in the mental hospital. The older sister says that her mother hates her, so she must be sleeping. She asks her younger sister to give her her guardian necklace, which was left in her hometown, so that she won't be tempted to kill herself. She says she is "something evil," and she refuses to inherit her sister's inheritance because she "is the true sacrifice."
