The patriarch welcomes everyone to the island. He tells his son to prepare for the afterlife. He also tells him that his father, Mingxian, committed suicide, and that his son, Lu chao, is also a suicide victim. The patriarch then tells the story of how he and his son were tricked into the suicide scene by Mr. Lu, and how Lu was scared to death by peeing in the pants of his teacher. He says that he hates his father for leaving him alone and for making him live in hatred. He asks the patriarch to take his successor to the shrine, and the patriarch says that it is not within his power to do so. He goes on to explain that the idol inside the shrine is a living person, and he has to protect his children from the people who worship there.
