About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that some people are still climbing up the social ladder even after they've fallen from it. He says that he doesn't want to be assassinated, because he's still pursuing his dream of becoming a rich man. The narrator also says that his child will be sent away to another school, because it's rare for a rich kid to fail. He tells the students not to tell the story of how he and his sister got into a fistfight, because that would be embarrassing for the rich kid. He also tells them that his sister's apology is the first pair of shoes that's available, and she's lying on the hospital floor, waiting for them to save her life. He asks the students to pack the shoes for him, but they refuse, saying that they have to pay a membership fee once a month to keep up with the other companies in town. He wonders how long they'll be able to unite, since there's also a pervert in their midst. He wants to make sure that the pervert is expelled from the school. He's enjoying the game of hide-and-seek with his friends, and he wants to bring the shoes to his friend, who's in a bad mood. He feels bad that he has to take responsibility for his friend's bad mood, but he also wants to help him out, so he asks his friend if he can help him. The friend says he'll find him soon, and the narrator promises that he will find him hidden rats. The
