In this short scene, Rinehart is overcome with emotion at the sight of the light he has just seen. He realizes that he has finally had the opportunity to join the navy, but he is cold and afraid of what it will do to his health. He is so touched by the light that he gives it to him. He kisses it and says that he will protect him from harm if he should do so.
