In this short scene, we are introduced to a number of characters who have been introduced in the play. The first of these characters is the captain of the ship, who is in the middle of a conversation with his lieutenant. The captain asks the lieutenant where he is being taken, and the lieutenant replies that he is not being taken anywhere, but is instead being taken to the "storeroom." The captain is shocked to learn that the lieutenant is a liar, and he is determined to find out the truth about the whereabouts of the captain's body.
