In this chapter, we learn that Fukana has fallen in love with Shimada, and that he is determined to make sure that she does not marry him. He tells her that he has saved Shimada's life, but that he will not help her in any way. She begs him to stop, but he refuses to help her, saying that he does not want to be a part of the crew that Shimada has trained. She tells him that her father was forced to become a captain when Shimada became a capitant, and she says that she will be honored if Shimada is gone.
