In this short scene, we are introduced to the protagonist of the story, who is named "prince shizuy" . He is a young boy who has been orphaned. He has been taught to draw by his mother, who has given him a picture book as a gift. When he is a child, he is taught to read, write, and speak. He does not know how to express his emotions, however, and so he does not understand why his mother would give him such an important gift. He feels that he is not worthy of it, and that he should be ashamed of his behavior. He tells his mother that he wants to be like a hero, but that he cannot do so because he is half-assed. He asks her to draw a picture for him, and she gives him a ribbon to use as a symbol.
