About This Chapter
This chapter opens with a description of the scar on Shmoop's face. The narrator tells us that the scar is a result of the protagonist's jumping out of a window during a conversation with his friend, Shmoo. Shmoo tells the narrator that the protagonist left by himself early the morning of the following day, and Shmoo says that Shmoo told him that he would not be able to return home that day because of the injury. Shmook says that he is sorry, but Shmoo's injury is not as bad as Shmoo thought it would be, since Shmoo was trying to show Shmoo the knife he had just used to stab Shmoo in the back of the head. The protagonist says that if Shmoo had tried to stab him, it would not have ended in such a way. Shmimicking Shmoo, the protagonist tells us, the scar was caused by Shmoo trying to cut him with the knife, and the protagonist thinks that the knife was intended for Shmoo to show off his knife skills. Shmo then tells the protagonist that he should not worry about the incident, since it was only a rumor spread by social media, and he was relieved when Shmoo did not see Shmoo that day. He then turns to his tall boots, which Shmoo has given Shmoo as a gift
