The next morning, Ling Xu is grilling meat for the elders. When he finds out that the elders have been meeting all night, he is furious. He tells the elders that he hasn't eaten since the previous day, and that he's not going to eat any more meat until they tell him to bring the girl back. He also tells them that he has never seen the girl before. The elders are so friendly to the young man that he can pretend that he never saw the girl. He says that the great elder only wants to bring her back as long as he doesn't get into his way. He's so angry that he threatens to kill him if he does not get up to fight him. He then throws water on him in return for the meat, and he says he'll make him regret what he did today. He threatens to strip him naked and hang him on a tree if he didn't say it sooner. He goes on to say that they'll be friends from now on, and they're going to be able to do whatever they want with each other. He asks the elders to hurry up and tell the elder that he needs to get back to fetch the girl, and the elders say that he should hurry up.
