This chapter opens with a soliloquy about how Dr. Rivers has saved the world. He's a hero, he says, because someone gave him a bunch of money to do it. He then launches into a long speech about how he's going to start school in sixth grade and how a lot of people are going to be starting school in third grade. He tells the audience that he wants to talk about a local fire, which he thinks is the same woman who started it. The narrator points out that the places in the fire are interesting because of the "combustionive fire powers" and the "axe to grind" that they have. He says that he'll be able to find a job in the military, which is becoming more and more likely. He also says that people are looking for him, and that he and his friends are "invigorated" . He talks about how there's an "explosion" of intelligence in the world, and he says that it's important to note that climate change is a direct result of human activity. He points to the fact that the speed of climate change has been linked to human activity, which means that human activity is causing the climate to get out of control. He goes on to say that he doesn't know if she's still alive or not, but that humanity is on fire.
