In the middle of the night, the Governess hears the sound of someone rushing down the stairs. The Governess realizes that it is her brother who is trying to get her to pick up the boy from school. She is overcome with fear and trembling, but she is able to bring him down safely. She tells the boy that she will catch him if he falls, and they go off together.
