In this chapter, we are introduced to a new character named "Feng Cang." He is a member of the Du Basilik unit, which is stationed in the eastern part of the country. He has just won a competition at an eastern barracks in which he is competing against other soldiers. He is angry at the other soldiers for comparing him to a young lord. He calls them "bastard dogs" and accuses them of selling out their comrades for glory. He also criticizes his old man for raising such a bastard as himself. He says that he almost forgot that his father died early and that he was a dog who had no mother to raise him. He then calls him a "good feng punch cang" and says that his injury has not healed yet. He goes on to say that he finally escaped from prison and came to see his old friend. He tells the other men that they are all "worthless things" and he will be executing all of them.
