In this chapter, we are introduced to a young woman who has just arrived in Paris. She is a prostitute, and she has come to live with a man who is a member of the Paris underworld. The woman is shocked to learn that the man she has just met is actually a fierce gangster. She tells the man that she is a "girl" and that he should not be afraid of her. The man, however, does not believe her, and he tells her that he will kill her if she does not leave him alone. The young woman, who has only two breasts, is horrified at the thought of being alone with such a powerful man.
